Understanding Medicare Supplement Insurance
Even under traditional Medicare, Medicare recipients are still responsible for 20% of costs. A Medicare Supplement plan, also know as a Medigap policy, helps cover the remaining 20% of costs. Put simply, a Medicare Supplement policy covers the gap in coverage created between Medicare Part A and Part B, hence the nickname "Medigap."
Navigating Medicare can be a confusing process. For example, Medicare Part A is different than Medicare Plan A, so it's very important to understand the different between Medicare Parts and Plans, which is why we are here to help!
Being well covered under traditional Medicare typically involves Medicare Part A + Medicare Part B + Medicare Part D (drug coverage) along with a Medicare Supplement Plan to cover the gaps in the Parts (Medigap). Medicare Supplement Plans (labeled A through N) are federally standardized, so in terms of coverage, a Plan G is a Plan G no matter the carrier; however, premiums may vary from carrier to carrier.
